Best Interest Fiduciary Services acts as a bridge between you, your family members, health care advisors, accountants, attorneys and others in your circle of support. Financial services may vary from paying household bills to handling investments and trusts and personal affairs management can span the range of coordinating daily care or housing to medical needs. Clients may nominate and assign these duties in the following roles and capacities:

Trustee

A trustee is responsible for carrying out the terms of a living or testamentary trust.

Personal Representative

In this role, a decedent’s estate is administered and guided through probate following the terms of the will.

Power of Attorney

By appointing us as your agent under a power of attorney for finance or healthcare, we can act on your behalf dealing with all or specified matters, as you determine.

Fee Information

For cases that are under probate court jurisdiction, fiduciary fees and expense reimbursement are subject to guidelines established by the California Probate Code and local county rules.

For private client matters not under probate court jurisdiction, fees are 1% of the trust/estate or $175 per hour, whichever is higher. All hourly fees are charged at a minimum of one-tenth (.10) of an hour which includes, but is not limited to: client visits, telephone calls, correspondence (including emails), meetings, research, document review, document preparation, court preparation and attendance, consultation and related administrative support.  Travel time is also charged round trip door to door.

Clients are invoiced for all expenses – at cost, without markup – that incurred on behalf of their matter including, but not limited to, long distance telephone charges, copy charges, faxes, postage, and travel expenses incurred by Best Interest Fiduciary Services on behalf of client.

About Us


Founded in 2017 by Erin L. Markey, Best Interest Fiduciary Services serves clients with the utmost integrity and compassion with its individualized, person-centered approach.

As a California Licensed Professional Fiduciary (CLPF) and National Certified Guardian (NCG), Erin received her Certificate in Fiduciary Management for Trustees from California State University, Fullerton, and her Certificate in Health Advocacy from University of California, Berkeley. Prior to launching her practice, Erin was the program coordinator at the Institute on Aging’s fiduciary service department, supporting more than 30 clients in the agency’s role as Trustee, Power of Attorney, Conservator and Representative Payee. She also volunteered with Jewish Family and Children Services Palliative Care program, Sutter Health’s Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) and at University of California San Francisco’s Cancer Resource Center.

Erin’s journey into the world of fiduciary services and health advocacy stemmed from her first-hand experience during her father’s battle, and then, passing from cancer. She is a former marketing communications professional who built innovative food and beverage brands in-house at Odwalla, popchips and The Melt and for clients at global agencies such as Ketchum and Burson-Marsteller. She continues to be a passionate foodie. Erin received her MBA from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and received her BA from Trinity College in Connecticut.
